Jim Carrino

1959-62

JIM CARRINO ’62 grew up in New York City and played under coach Lou Carnesecca at Archbishop Malloy High School in Queens. Jim led his team to an undefeated season in his senior year, defeating Archbishop Carroll in McDonough Gym for the national catholic high school championship crown in 1958.

Averaging 14.1 ppg from the backcourt over three varsity seasons with the Hoyas, Jim graduated from the College in 1962 with a degree in philosophy. While serving in the Navy after Georgetown, he was selected to represent the U.S. Armed Forces in the Olympic basketball trials in 1964.

Upon completion of his military service, Jim entered into a 35-year career in the computer business. He relocated from New York to North Carolina where he spent most of his career. With responsibilities for North and South America, he traveled throughout the hemisphere. Jim retired as CEO of the Equinox Group, an information technology company in 1996, and currently lives in Raleigh, NC. He and his wife of 42 years, Judith, have three children, Darren, Shannon, and Elise, and nine grandchildren. In their spare time, they enjoy travel, golf, and sailing.

Jim flatly states his gratitude to Georgetown for the opportunity to play basketball and most importantly, to experience a world-class education. Since his days on campus, he has generously given his time and talent to organize reunion gatherings with his former teammates as well as his Georgetown class of 1962. He is proud of the professional success of his fellow basketball players who came to the Hilltop to play ball and left, thanks to the Jesuits, having learned “how to think.”
